Welcome to Japandi: 2.0, an expanded version of our Fall 2021 exhibition Japandí: shared influences and aesthetics. We have curated a collection of additional works by the 39 fiber and ceramic artists in the original exhibition that explore artistic affinities among artists from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Japan. Contemporary art and design from these areas often incorporate shared sensibilities — use of natural materials and a focus on sustainability and an appreciation of minimalism and exquisite craftsmanship. As the works in Japandí 2.0 illustrate, both cultures also make room for reuse, artful imperfection, and comfortable simplicity, through the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi and the Scandinavian idea of hygge. Click HERE to see more works by the artists in Japandí 2.0.
